waterfalls
11.07.12 / Just a few photos here that I wanted to share with you. I took them during a completely random, adventurous, spontaneous, and unarguably serendipitous beach outing with a special group of friends at the end of the summer. (In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, I realize it was the last of my summer escapades. I mean, not counting the tour shenanigans with my friends/bandmates, of course. Call them what you will.) I was walking downtown with my friend Jacob toward his apartment when I saw my friend Patrick parked for a second on the side of Division Ave. He quickly grabbed my attention by hollering at me to jump in the car and go with him, and the other two car-loads of friends in tandem, to the beach for a late night swim. What was there to question?
We ran into quite a collection of surprises that late night/early morning. We had a slightly obnoxious run in with a cop, telling us we could not enter the water past 10 PM. And, since it was about 1 AM, that definitely stalled and altered our dark-watered, celebratory dip. (Celebrating, of course, the recent vicotry of the Waterfalls soccer club. We) But we went to swim. So, after being escorted back to our vehicles, we moved our location further down the beach, escaped the man with the flashlight, hiked through patches of woods with the chilly dunes surfacing through the cracks of our toes, and finally made our way into the body, dancing about with our antsy feet and playful spirits in the seemingly endless Lake Michigan waters. We swam. And it was a really, really good swim. A magical evening. Or morning, I guess, would be a more accurately telling. But it felt like the night. And it felt like the ten of us were somehow out of reach from anything bad or sad, hurtful or harmful. It felt only like good, beautiful and marvelous things could happen to us out there. And, actually, that was the case... until we got back to our cars and found that the policeman had rediscovered our parking point, ticketing each car in the three car train we were traveling in. It happens. [MN]
